Woke up this morning with something on my mind. Ran into some old friends, and man am I excited about that. I also had a chance to read some old investigating papers yesterday. One of my friends is doing research for my autobiography, and he came up with some stuff that sent chills down my spine. It was these five or six states that had an investigation on me. And these initial papers had people identify me in bank and jewely store robberies, when I read these papers it became reality on how bad they really wanted me. And I guess I went to bed thinking about that last night. And I woke up with this on my mind this morning. Why is it so important for us to succeed in life? To the point that we put our on life on the line, and freedom. I got to see police officers go in front of a grand jury and lie. Then I was wondering, was he lying just to bring me down? Or was he lying to boast his career? Can anybody answer the question? Why are humans are willing to risk it all for success? My friends that I made contact with the other day reminded me of the days when we had no money. We had garage parties with only three records. Then I thought back to myself, were we happy then? Yea there was times we went hungry with no food. But we all had love for each other still. I don't know where this is really going, just something I woke up thinking about this morning. Was wondering if anybody could help me figure it out.
Peace

Ricky,
Hey. I'm a junior in high school and for history class we had to write a paper on someone who had a lasting affect on the U.S. After watching BET's Real American Gangster: Ricky "Freeway" Ross, I decided to go out on a limb and write my paper on you. As I began my research, I was expecting to find just another typical LA drug dealer. But what i found was an extremely intersting story with a different twist around every corner. As i rounded up my research, i was looking for a good ending. An ending different from all others. That is when i found this website. I came to know the man i spent the last three months reading about. To my surprise, you are filled with life and hope. You only want what is best for the world, which makes for one hell of an ending. This is the point I am trying emphasize in my paper. So, if there is anything you would like me to say in my paper i know my classmates and teacher would like nothing more than to hear from the man i wrote five pages about(I know, that doesn't do you any justice) Thank you so much for reading this and God Bless.
I know what you mean man, when i think back to the days we were really broke it all was so fun. Those days shaped who we are and why we do what we do, the thought of not being able to provide for our families is the reason we put it all on the line. The world tries to teach you that a man is a person who can show and spend money, but a man is some one with integrity, and morals. The days when we were really broke turned us into men, and now after all we done in our life to people and ourselves, we look back on those days when we were kids just wanting to go outside and question if it all was worth the money or whatever we thought we could not live with out until we realized that the best times we had was because we were with out.

Some time we think about things that are future event that will happen to some one we love. Make sure that you understand them and not jump the gun on them. Pray on those mind games, and dreams and the answers will become clear as day on what you have to do or who you have to save before the mistake is made that person. Peace ! LIL Billy
Whats happening Rick, yeah I think you're right people will do anything to succeed. I was talking to one of my boys who is studying to get his masters, and he was doing a study on black males and how, we don't fit into the corporate structure and are forced to make our own. And he was saying it seems like through history we were shown that in order to become successful you are gonna have to do something wrong is some way or another. And I like its true when you think about the Kennedys and all the other rich old families, like they sold liquor during prohibition and then flipped that money into everything else. And I use to feel like maybe if I sold some dope or something then I could stack enough money to start my business and do all the things I wanted to. So it is kinda said but I feel people will do anything and go to extremes to reach what they feel is success. Thats dirty how they tried to do you too, man I can't imagine being in your
shoes. But I think going through it made you a even more powerful you.. Good blog family keep em coming.. I look forward to the day when we can sit down and have these conversations ________________________________
' Why are humans are willing to risk it all for success?'
Because who dares - wins. You got to be willing to risk everything to get to the next level.
Man, I understand what you're saying. People are willing to do anything to succeed it seems but not everyone is willing to sacrifice the same things. This seperates the people who really want something from the one's who don't and depending on the risks and the outcomes, the fools from the wise. We all must have the drive to really want to succeed but still have an understand of what success is worth. You can't lose your integrity or go against your morals or religion for success because you'd be fooling yourself. A christian can't murder someone for money because then they would not be a christian. They'd be a person pretending to be. The police who lied on you Ricky were not police officers. The were liars, or cheats dressed in uniform using lies and cheating tactics to further their career or, stop the progress of a man they did not like. Had they wanted you for the right reasons and honestly used the truth with their police tactics then they were doing a good job. I guess I'm saying happiness is what we make it. There are poor people in this world who smile everyday while there are rich people jumping out of windows because the stock market crashed. Ricky Ross is in prison writing and sounding as if he's full of life and hope while Shakir Stewart is no longer with us because of suicide. Happiness is what we make it. Love life people. It will have no choice but to love you back.

Mr Ross, Im from Zimbabwe. Southern Africa and from my life experiences the reason why people are willing to put errthang on the line for success is because nobody knows what success is in essence. Some people i know have the best of life and happiness living on less than a US dollar a day! because for their needs that maybe all it takes. but for those of us absorbed into the lusty pleasures of the world that have more than what they need so they are driven by their wants that dollar aaint cuttin it, self control, self discipline and ethics/the human race does not know the meaning of enough!
From the 38 years ive been here on this earth people want recognition and fame and they will sacrafice there whoever and whatever to reach it,you were a goldmine meaning if whoever could bring Mr.Ross down would make that person or group of people well known in the media and in the public.Of course it was to boast his career but it would make history as well.#1 American Gangster, Wars are won before they are fought, Strategic thinking ,knowing what the next man is gonna do is what wins wars.Mr. Ross you were a pawn in this game of life, the cost was years taken out of your life ,but remember what doesnt kill us only makes us stronger.I remember a time when we had no food and at the age of twelve i was at the grocery store hustling bags making sure my mother and sister and myself ate,we had love and respect for one another. It wasnt about let me rob my neighbor ,it was about honest hard work and it was a success because we ate.Case and point now a days people will do anything to eat..........Mooney aka NationCapital-Peace RRR!
Hello Ricky,
I am home sick today and happened to catch "The Great White Hope". I never knew. I mean, I knew how it's brought in and how it can kill a people. I grew up in Detroit in the 80s and my mother the decades following, but I never knew the details.
I'm not really sure what to say except that I know more about the world now. I'll be reading your blog, please continue.
I don't believe that there is one answer to your question. People make the choices that they do because it seems right at the time, therefore we tend to lose our fathers, brothers and husbands to a system designed to give them food and shelter thus creating a home of thoughts. But all in all I think we put everything on the line just because we hope to come out on top which in so many cases is only temporary causing it to be nothing more then a mirage. Insha'Allah we will get it together before it's too late.
I think sometimes we get caught up in life that we tend to forget about what's really important, such as just giving a plain ole thank you to god,you know life is strange, but with real love brings light which equals understanding, your friends bought you back to understanding that when it was all love not to much else mattered.we need to restore that back into society.it's your boy Romel
I'm in the process of reading "Dark Alliance" I was just wondering, not to discount Mr Webb's information, but are there any parts of the book about you specifically, that you disagree with? I'm finding the book completely enthralling, for lack of a better word and if there's an autobiography about you coming up, I cannot wait to read it. I'm not one of those gangster wannabe's. I like to read contemporary american history. I find it interesting how people like yourself, Frank Lucas, Leroy Barnes, Carlo Gambino, John Gotti and others have helped shape the country to the way it is currently, for better or worse. I have only recenty found your blog and have subscribed, I was looking at info about you on Wikipedia and see that you're scheduled for release next year. I wonder if there will be a film (As in the case of Lucas 'American Gangster') or possibly a full documentary (As in Leroy Barnes 'Mr. Untouchable')about you. That is a show I would be very interested in seeing as I am certain others would as well. I wish you well Mr Ross.
