Going That Extra Mile (Part 2)

Building block number three in creating a positive mental attitude is to cultivate the habit of doing more than you are paid to do or more than expected of you. Form the habit of going the extra mile by giving service that is not expected. By doing so you will attract friends, clients and supporters from every direction. There is much to be said for the old cliche, "service with a smile." If your attitude outwardly and inwardly is positive and you go the extra mile by giving extra service over and above that which is required in your job description, then you are well on your way towards building relationships that will not only be pleasant but also splendidly rewarding. These are the types of relationships that will catapult you towards the achievement of your highest goals.

Cultivating the habit of giving more and better service than you are paid for brings rewards in many forms. This mentality will attract favorable attention from the right people (ie. the people who will provide you opportunities of advancement). More often than not, the returns will come from an entirely unexpected source, not from the person you initially provided the extra service for. The law of increasing returns will work for you. The law of increasing returns states: The extra seeds you sow will come back to you greatly multiplied in one form or another. You need not ask permission to do more than is expected neither in manner nor in deed. If you work for wages, the habit of doing more than is required gives you a perfect right to expect pay increases and promotions; nothing else gives you that right. If you render less service than that particular service will eventually dwindle away.

Remember this: The quality of service you give, plus the quantity of the service and the mental attitude attitude in which you give it, determines the pay you will receive. Remember this also: If your mental attitude is negative, if you complain and find fault with others, it will offset whatever you do, even if you do more than you are paid to do. No one wants to be around someone whose mind is negative and whose words are a sharp-edged sword. There is power in the hands of people who do a job consistently well while maintaining a pleasant attitude towards everyone around them. These are the people who always give a little more than expected of them. These are the type of people who will be successful in their endeavors. It is virtually impossible for them to fail.

Sincerely,
Ricky Ross

Hey Ricky. I was just browsing around wikipedia reading about the coca leaf and somehow landed on your blog. You are very wise and I enjoy reading your blogs.
It's not everyday you get the opportunity to speak (in)directly with a person as notorious as you.
I just have three simple questions:
What do you plan on doing when you get out of prison? Have you considered being a motivational speaker?
What type of books do you enjoy? My house is filled with them and I'm sure I can manage to find one to send your way as thanks for your words of wisdom.
I work in the service industry (hospitality ) and sometimes even going the extra mile day in and day out seems like it will never pay off. My management team here skimps out on doing the 3-month "reviews" ( like every other job I've had ), and then when I ask about a raise..I just get a run-around... the owner isn't giving out raises, well a recommendation should have been made during your last review...
(Well, I didn't get a review...[Oh, sure you did] ... No, I didn't.... [changes topic] ...
Needless to say, I'm pursuing a further education so I can get out of this hell. Anyway, on to my third question:
Are you able to receive a degree while in an institution?

Double R,

I find your blogs really positive and uplifting - I thank you for that. What do you think about the rapper using your name, your street credibility - for himself? I'm sure he's not using your name for the positive influence you've had on people’s lives or for the philanthropic deeds you've done. What does that say about the state of rap music and today’s environment? Your case was one of entrapment and the government shared no culpability in your indictment. People you thought were friends were racist and hated you - turned their backs and crucified you! How do you keep from being bitter? Like my man Josh, I'm down to send you some books too... Peace and love brother.

Josh, thanks, I appreciate the comments. My plan is to take all my knowledge that I have learned and apply it to good. I started a web site, that is my number one thing. I need a little help with design to put all my ideas together. I also plan on educating kids on the yields of selling and using drugs. I would like to be a motivational speaker to some extent. I love reading motivational books, books on business and management; if you have any in that cataorgory feel free. I am glad to hear that you go the extra mile day in and day out. Trust me, it will pay off. And that's what we are going to need to do to get our country out of hock.

Right now we are knee deep in debt. Listen, don't work for the money work for the experience. Have you ever read The Richest Man in Babylon? I will be doing a blog next week. It's not about how much you make, it's what you do with what you make. Even if your boss doesn't appreciate you, keep doing a great job and somebody else will recognize you. Yes, we can recieve degrees while we are here but have to pay for them. So what I will do is buy the books and have all the information without the degree. Somebody is going to take notice. I hope you stay in touch, I will be able to help you. $RR$

KP, glad that my blogs have been able to help. That is really a touchy situation. No, he is not, he is using my name for sheer profit and to lace his own pocket. But he can live in the past, I am going to the future. Rap music is in trouble.

You seem to know a lot about my case. You did a lot of studying, huh? We must get the American people as a whole to start paying attention to what's going on. I keep from being bitter by looking at the future. I know now I can do anything that I want to do. All I have to do is put my mind to it. If the mind can conceive it, the body can acheive it.

Well, I really only read business and movitational books. I love to read the latest from any author. And not only that, there is a small pool of guys here that study like me. We have made a committment to - just like we tore the country up - to rebuild it. Most of us are not educated from the universities but we know if we mix our street with education, only good can come out of it. Thanks for getting at me. Peace.

I love what you wrote about going the extra mile! I've worked in all kinds of industries (medical, military...hospitality...all that) and every word you wrote applies. In the Navy it was all about rank & file (you know how that goes)...people get too stuck on rank (moving up in the ranks) that they feel they don't have to be nice to people below them. I practice respect up & down the chain of command...you never know who might be in a position to assist you one day. I respect what you're doing...wanting to do good for future generations...I want to do that too.

I read about you working on a website...I just finished mine (and I have no experience on that kindda stuff) www.itsoktocook.com It was so easy at www.web.com...check it out maybe it works for you. Also...you should ask around and see if some of your loyal readers can donate
you an Imac computer so you can do all your stuff. Take care...hope all is well.

Red: Glad you like it. I know it applies. Yea, they pretty much run it like a military here too. Well I think you should always be nice to people no matter how you blow up. You are correct, you should respect everybody. We definitey welcome you on the team. I am glad you read about our work. Its not just me, there is a whole team of us trying to make a difference. The more the better. I got you website address but I want be able to email you. Alright thanks for the address. Well right now they don't let us have our own personal computers. Whats a Imac anyway? Alright, hope you stay in touch. And keep reading the blogs! $Triple R$
