TheSmokingGun.com Busts the Fake "Rick Ross"

Despite denials, records show rap star worked as C.O.
JULY 21--Apparently desperate to distance himself from any affiliation with law enforcement, the rapper Rick Ross has recently denounced as fake photos purporting to show him in a former career as a Florida prison guard. But Department of Corrections (DoC) records show that Ross, whose raps detail the Miami gangster lifestyle and his supposed days trafficking cocaine, did, in fact, work as a correctional officer for 18 months. Ross (real name: William Leonard Roberts) was appointed a prison guard in December 1995 at a salary of $22,913.54, according to the below personnel record, which was provided to TSG by Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a DoC spokesperson. The rapper's social security number is identical to that of the jail guard. According to the official document, Ross was earning $25,794.34 when he resigned in June 1997. After graduating from the DoC training academy, Ross was assigned to the South Florida Reception Center in Dade County (the lockup is one of three statewide that serves as an intake facility for new prisoners). When a photo of a uniform-clad Ross surfaced last week on MediaTakeOut.com, the 32-year-old performer claimed to AllHipHop.com that unnamed "online hackers" put "my face when I was a teenager in high school on other peoples' body. If this shit was real don't you think they would have more specifics, like dates and everything?" He added, "Fake pictures are created by the fake, meant to entertain the fake." The photo, which you can find here, shows a 19-year-old Ross at a DoC ceremony (he was part of the department's 60th graduating class). He is pictured shaking hands with Marta Villacorta, who then headed the South Florida Reception Center. Villacorta, now the department's South Florida regional director, was identified by Rackleff, who examined the photo Ross claims was Photoshopped. In a recent videotaped interview, Ross replied, "No, that's not true" when asked if he had worked as a prison guard. He claimed that the phony story was being circulated by detractors upset by his success in the rap world, where, "I came out of nowhere and just took over the streets."

It's sad that this poor guy is about to be exposed for the fake rapper he is.

I am compelled to disagree with you Kells, it's not sad, its necessary and about damn time! Double R is sitting in jail doing a bid for 20 - and the U.S. Government would probably like to keep him for the rest of his natural life.....He was entrapped and people he thought were his friends were part of the collusion. Of course I'm not advocating pushing dope is acceptable. But the true gangsta is locked up for his actions and this clown wants the money, fame and glory! He's going to rap about Double R's life - like it was his. Has he ever gone to visit, or put money on the books, or lawyer fees? Studio gangstas do a lot of talking but real gangstas do real things. Rick Ross, 50 cent, Escobar. What type of man are you to make money off another mans name? What does that say about your character? He put the work in, he risked his life - or lost it! If Rick Ross had to do 20 lets see if he'd still want to rap about the shit - or even make it through his sentence!

Interviewer: "How do you compare yourself to Freeway Rick?"

Rick Ross: "Oh, I can't compare myself to - you know I don't even know buddy. IT AIN'T LIKE I NAMED MYSELF AFTER HIM, it wasn't like that. But I didn't get the name, I didn't even know who he was at the time."

Rick Ross is a liar and a coward. F^ck him!!

Steve: Yea, well he made his bed. I tried to warn him a year and a half ago. I told him it would be best just to be himself, and if he and I were just friends that people would still show him love. When you earn something no one can every take it away, but all lies are eventually found out. So he has to lay in this. $RR$

HaHa , that fat fake fraud ( Is Triple F available as a name for him? ) Looks like a sausage in his uniform. LOL

Lying about your rap sheet in rap is nothing new. It's been going on since the beginning ,although back then , the lies were denying a record.

I can't believe this clown is ashamed about not having a prison record. LOL

That is mad funny. he had a good job & could have made a small positive difference in the inmates lives. Instead he made a choice to make a big negative difference with our youth.

I guess he'll just have to keep lying & lying , creating a massive downfall.
LOL @ This clown pretending he never heard of you & didn't steal your name. How the F#$K do you get Rick Ross the Drug Kingpin from William Roberts the Correctional Officer?

LMFAO & SMMFH!

P.S.:
Lying in your rhymes is worse than lying or your 4-9-3-11!

So, I feel like the only person who has been wondering why this guy has been calling himself Rick Ross ever since he came out with his first rap song. The rapper Rick Ross isn't the real rick ross? fucking duh.

I personally would love to see Freeway Ricky sue the shit outta this imposter and give him what he's had coming for a long time.

seriously Rick. Sue this guy. He has used your name to make millions of dollars. You've spent 20 years in the pen. Please do yourself a favor and get what this guy rightfully owes you. I bet he would settle instead of going to court because he wouldn't want the negative publicity.
